Alleviating Hospital Fears
One of our Westchester children's librarians has worked with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to create a quite wonderful book, ADAM GOES TO THE OPERATING ROOM. Children's most frequently asked questions and anxieties are dealt with frankly and reassuringly in this 24-page book. It begins with Adam arriving at the hospital the morning of his surgery and follows him from his ride on a stretcher to the operating room until he wakes up in the post-anesthesia unit.

Developed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, this book was designed to take some pressure off a young person entering the hospital for ANY surgical experience. Clear, colorful photos and short, easy-to-read text make this book adaptable for children of all ages and language skills.

Adam of Antares

Author: Ron Ferguson

Blast off to fun!
Adam of Antares is a fun jaunt into the life (or is it the imagination) of a young boy who has the adventure of a lifetime. His trip to the stars is the kind of fun that young boys daydream about. The artwork is great, and helps us to visualize some of the excitement that Adam is experiencing. The writing is appropriate for its intended audience, while trying to challenge the mastery of new words for the reader. Get a copy for yourself, your kid, a niece or nephew, or maybe even buy one to donate to the library.

Reading it again and again
I just purchased this book for my 3 & 5 year old daughters. They ask me to read it over and over. It has been a good lesson on loving your enemies yet in a way that is gentle for little ones. I plan to buy more of these books for our home reading.

Parable in modern day
This is a modern day telling of the parable of the prodigal son. Through excellent drawings, simple text and delightful dialogue, children can easily understand that it's o.k. to make mistakes and you will be forgiven.

A (Furry) Parable about Love
Cute loveable Adam Raccoon lives with King Aren in Master's Wood. He is just like a small child, and King Aren is the loving guide who teaches Adam about life's great lessons. This is a wonderful adaptation of Jesus's parable of the Wedding Feast when the honoured guests rejected their invitations and the doors were thrown open to the poor and rejected, whom Jesus loves equally. My children ask for this story over and over again. All of the Adam Raccoon books in the series are great.

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
This is an outstanding story teaching children biblical truths. The author uses delightful characters such as Adam Raccoon and King Aren the Lion.

In this story Adam Raccoon is running in a race to Victory Mountain, but he does not realize all the ways it is easy to stray from the path just as it is in our life as we try to live for God, but kind King Aren gently leads him back. This story symbolizes our walk with God and how easy it is to stray, but also shows how Jesus is always there to gently leads us back.

The illustrations are colorful and pleasing to the eye. This is a great little book and I recommend it.

Wonderful!
My kids love this book! We have to read it everyday at nap time. I think it is a wonderful parable about how as long as we have God with us we don't need anything else. It has been good stepping stone for futher converstions with my 4 and 3 year old.
